My Story

Sydney
Sydney has been a stylist for 4 years.
My name is Sydney, and I am one of the newest stylists at The Rare Bird!
With nearly four years of experience behind the chair, I have proudly served clients throughout the Alexandria area for my entire career. I specialize in soft, lived in blondes and low maintenance dimensional color, creating effortless and natural looks that grow out beautifully.
I am deeply committed to providing a calm, warm, and personable experience for every guest. I take pride in making sure my clients feel heard, respected, and completely at ease from the moment they sit in my chair. Thoughtful consultations and intentional work are at the heart of everything I do.
Outside of the salon, I love experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen and spending as much time as possible with my dog, whether that means long walks, hikes, or an energetic game of fetch. I also enjoy easy travel and quick weekend getaways, especially trips to my favorite beach town, Charleston.
On slower days, you can often find me thrifting, browsing antique stores, or picking up a new craft or skill just for the fun of learning something new.
I am thrilled to continue serving the Alexandria community at The Rare Bird and cannot wait to welcome both new and familiar faces into my chair.

Eris
Eris has been a stylist for 2 years.
Hi! My name is Eris and I want to welcome you to a space where it’s all about your comfort, your need and your vibe.
Whether you’re in the mood to chat and gossip or prefer a peaceful, silent appointment, I’m here to meet you where you are. In my chair I believe everyone deserves at least 10 minutes of pure relaxation at the shampoo bowl.
With my gentle approach you might catch yourself taking a cozy nap in the bowl (it happens more than you’d think!) Beyond the chill vibes, I’m here to help you find longevity in your cut, color and styling, while also giving you the tools and guidance on what you need to care for your hair confidently between visits.
I believe in honest, approachable education so you’ll always know what we’re using, why it works and how to try it before you buy it. I’m all about managing realistic expectations because “low maintenance” doesn’t mean no maintenance. I want to help you find a routine that best fits your lifestyle.
Outside the salon you can usually find me curled up watching my favorite shows, soaking in a quiet view outside or spending time with my family and friends. Im also currently obsessed with macrame after one of our crafter evenings so don’t be surprised if you find a new coaster or two lying around the salon. As I am fresh in my career I am passionate and excited to grow and I’d love nothing more than to grow with you.

Samantha
Samantha has been a stylist for 16 years.
Hey there, I can’t wait to meet you! I’m Sam, I've been happily working in the Northern Virginia region for some time.
As someone who is often on the go, I understand that self and personal care is often something that we tend to save as a treat-yourself moment. That’s why I created a space that allows you to fully decompress and feel at ease. I want your ‘to do’ list to be the last thing on your mind.
In my 15 years of working behind the chair, I have realized that personal connections and creativity go hand in hand. I specialize in creating cuts that maintain itself for long periods of time as well as color that gives dimension while appearing lived-in until I get to see you again.
While most stylists offer a great first visit and solid maintenance thereafter, I see my role as your stylist differently. I strive to take the time to trend cast our goals for the next few visits. I work with each guest to find ways to feel fresh, address their concerns and deliver maximum output for minimal input in home care. Every visit we sit down and talk about you and your hair so we can shift our goals and results accordingly.
When I am not working in the salon I am often working with my hands. I have found that making and creating are what fills up my cup behind the chair and at home. I have found that learning to draw and paint has deeply influenced my approach to achieving your hair goals. Watch out for my little love note drawings in your mailboxes during the holidays!
