  • We are an email & text-only salon.
    Because the majority of time spent in salon is behind the chair, it is hard to answer a phone call. Texting or emailing is a great way to get a quick response. Calls can be returned within 48 business hours. Additionally, direct messages via instagram can sometimes get lost or overlooked. Email or text is always a preferred point of contact. 202-599-9078
  • When booking any service, please arrive with freshly washed hair that is product free.
    The Rare Bird wants to ensure that every service is the very best we can offer -- whether sculpting a dry cut, achieving maximum grey coverage, or crafting perfectly lifted highlights. Please wash your hair within 12 hours of your service (arriving slightly damp is ok!). For guests who need to be shampooed before a dry cut, an extra service charge will be added and made known before the start of your service.
  • We serve guests age 15 and older.
    We want to be sure your service is as impactful as it is enjoyable, and our studio space is best suited to ages 15+. Let us know if you'd like a salon referral for our future guests who are under the age of 15.
  • We allow cancelation up to 48 hours prior to your appointment.
    The Rare Bird Salon understands that sometimes schedules change! Therefore, we request at least 48 hours notice when canceling our rescheduling your appointment. A credit card is required to hold your appointment time. Appointments canceled less than 48 hours ahead of time will incur a charge of 50% of the scheduled service amount. More than two repeated last-minute cancellations will result in the termination of any future services for the client.
  • The Rare Bird does have a "no-show" policy and fee.
    Appointments for which a client no-shows or neglects to cancel within our aforementioned policy will incur a charge of 50% of the scheduled service amount. More than one no-show will result in termination of any future services for the client.
  • How can I make an appointment?
    All appointments are booked through the appointment link at the top of the page. Appointments cannot be made or rescheduled via email or text. However, if you have questions about what appointment best suites your needs please reach out via email or text . 202-599-9078
  • How do I book Cut & Color Services?
    Color services can be booked with a haircut as an 'add on' service. All color services include a blowout. The Rare Bird recommends you select the 'Haircut add on' option if you would like a haircut after your color service. All color services include a blow-out. This allows both you and you stylist to see your beautiful color results in the moment, further ensuring your satisfaction.
  • What is the soonest date I can be seen?
    Currently, appointment times are booking at least Four weeks out. The online scheduler for The Rare Bird is always up to date with the earliest scheduling availability. If you would prefer a specific time for an appointment, but it is not available please choose the "add to waitlist" option when booking.
  • What is your mask policy?
    We currently are flexible with masks in the Rare Bird. We work in very close proximity with all of our guests, and while we navigate levels of comfort, we will continue masking if guests ask it of us. If you need a disposable mask, one will be provided at check-in. We deeply appreciate your kindness and understanding during this time.
  • What if I am sick or test positive for covid within the 48 hour cancellation window?
    While honesty and safety for the team and other guests is greatly appreciated, at this time our cancellation policy will be upheld.
